New President of Poland stated about the necessity of Warsaw participation in Ukrainian peace talks

Polish newly elected President Andrzej Duda stated on Wednesday, 5 August, that Poland along with other neighboring countries have participate in the Ukrainian peace talks in an attempt to resolve the military conflict in Donbas, Eastern Ukraine.

Polish President stated about it in his interview for the Polish PAP news agency.

“I think that if we are looking for a long-perspective and long-lasted peace, all peace negotiations have to be held in another format,” stated Andrzej Duda.

“I really hope that these talks will be held with the participation of Poland and other neighbors of Ukraine. Only broad peace conference could guarantee and ensure peace,” Polish President said.

Andrzej Duda thinks that restoring of Ukrainian borders before the beginning of the conflict would be the best solution in this extremely hard situation. Restoring of the old Ukrainian borders would be guarantee of European order, safety and stability. Meanwhile, frozen conflict in Eastern Ukraine could have fatal consequences for Ukraine and Europe as well, stated President.

“Poland has to support Ukraine in different ways. I am talking not only about financial support, but also about help and assistance in building of the state institutions,” stressed Mr. Duda.

Meanwhile Polish President stated that Poland would not like to have bad relationships with any of its neighboring states including Russia.

“This situation is really very complicated,” stated Mr. Duda, “but we will never act to deteriorate our relations”.

Earlier Polish authorities offered the so called “Weimar format” of the peace talks regarding the military conflict in Eastern Ukraine, with participation of Poland, Germany and France.
